Since starting this blog I have no misgivings in admitting that
I have been thrilled with how my personal creativity has thrived, or at least
how I have felt it grow. Ideas keep jumping through my mind all day long –to
the point that I do occasionally get frustrated at the amount of things I want
to try or do! But this frustration is well worth the renewed sense of
enthusiasm I gained from writing this blog and from starting to write my ownpatterns.
Having so many ideas and thoughts has made me realise just
how important carrying a notebook around with me has become. Every time I have
a new idea I quickly scribble it down in the book in the hopes that I will
remember it later and act upon it. Of course there is so much to do (dangers of
the internet and the allure of Ravelry and Pinterest) and many of the
ideas I jot down do end up forgotten, no matter how many post-it notes I stick
in my book that read ‘MUST DO THIS SOON’.
This is where the beauty of making notes all in one place
become apparent. Having written an idea down as soon as I have it - no matter
how small or large or silly it appears - I can then forget about it and move on
to other things. Particularly exciting ideas naturally stay on my mind after
writing them down so they will invariably be acted upon pretty immediately, but
smaller lightning ideas pass out of my mind quickly. But this doesn't matter
because when I’m having a day where I might not know what I want to make or
design next, or I’m not sure what to write about on my blog, I can flick
through my notebook and instantly have half a dozen ideas ready to go! Again
leading me to the ‘frustrated’ state of mind that there aren't enough hours in
the day...
My notebook I hope will also serve as a great reference on
how my blogging and knitting has developed not only over the past year but
hopefully many more years and notebooks yet to come. It is a comfort to know
that I always have this little book brimming with creativity in my bag with me,
no matter how mundane a day I may be having, to help jot down my ideas and
inspire me with some old ones.
Do you keep a notebook in your bag, or perhaps do something
similar?

i always have a notebook with me! i find that technology serves me best in combination with handwritten notes :)
ReplyDeleteI completely agree Erin - handwritten notes work well alongside technology, I struggle to make notes on my phone. jenny xx
ReplyDeleteWriting things down by hand instead of adding reminders to your phone or computer is great! I don't keep a notebook in which to jot down ideas though I really should. I used to do that, but at the moment I am relying on my - rather faulty - memory. I hope you get to do a lot of the things you note down!
ReplyDeleteAh well whenever I try just relying on my memory I do fail miserably - I feel better just admitting I am no good at remembering things and then I can whip out my notebook happily :) plus it is an excuse to purchase gorgeous notebooks :) thanks! I hope so too :) jenny xx
ReplyDeleteI should actually keep a notebook, and I'm pretty sure I still have one lying around somewhere, but unfortunately I'm not that organised. Occasionaly I will make some quick notes on my laptop if an idea just pops into my head and I'm afaird I'll forget it otherwise.
ReplyDeletePerhaps notebooks aren't for everyone after all, if keeping notes on your laptop works may as well stick with that - I think everyone is afraid they will forget their ideas, good to know we aren't the only ones! jenny xx
ReplyDeleteI have so many notebooks! It means I always have one, at work, home and on the go. As I am quite forgetful it means I dont need to keep things in my head or even remember where I have left my notebook. However, it does mean that when I come to find something later I dont always know which notebook it is in but it does mean that sometimes I rediscover pieces of inspiration I had forgotten about!
ReplyDeleteH.
I'm glad you agree H :) I have half a dozen notebooks too lying around, but once you write something down it isn't too bad if you forget as like you say you can discover it later! jenny xx
